Touchstone buys spec update of Bard classic (Variety)
		By DAN COX, October 13, 1997 Touchstone Pictures has optioned an updated spec version of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" called "Ten Things I Hate About You" by Karen Lutz and Kirsten Smith for Revolution Entertainment, sources said Friday. Andrew Lazar is producing the project. Revolution's Seth Jaret is exec producing. The pic is one of several Revolution has set up in the past month. The company also set David Levien and Brian Koppelman's "Guido's All-American" at Warner Bros. and the pair's "Weasels" at United Artists. Revolution Entertainment established itself in June with managers Jaret, Erik Kritzer (talent) and producer Mark Ezralow. Looking to finance, produce, cast and oversee a slate of low- to mid-budget indie pics, the company currently is setting up several productions: * "Brown's Requiem," based on a James Ellroy novel, is set for Revolution to produce. Budget will be in the $5 million range. Jason Freedland will adapt the novel and direct. "We're casting it right now," Kritzer said. "We're looking to put as many clients that makes sense into this movie." * "The Big Brass Ring," starring Nigel Hawthorne, was Orson Welles' last script before he died. George Hickenlooper ("The Low Life") is directing. Pic has a $7 million budget. Ezralow said the script is out to several major actors. Revolution is producing and financing. * "The Minion," with a $10 million budget, stars Dolph Lundgren. Revolution exec produced and financed. The William Morris Agency brokered the deal for Lutz and Smith. Their attorney is Karl Austen of Armstrong & Hirsch.
