“Rosewood” and “The Replacement Killers” star Michael Rooker has signed to play the lead in Jason Freeland’s “Brown’s Requiem.”

The film noir, which is based on the James Ellroy novel, is the story of repo man Fritz Brown (Rooker), who is hired to expose an illegal bookmaking racket headed by a corrupt police officer.

The $5 million independently financed film is to be written and directed by first-time helmer Freeland, who previously made the James Gandolfini short “Mr. Nice Guy.”

The film is being produced by Tim Youd. Revolution Entertainment’s Marc Ezralow will executive produce alongside Rooker, and Revolution’s Erik Kritzer will associate produce.

Revolution is a management and production company headed by Ezralow, Kritzer and Seth Jaret. Its production credits include Matthew Bright’s “Freeway” and Rory Kelly’s “Sleep With Me.”

Rooker was repped by the Gersh Agency’s Bob Gersh and by Kritzer at Revolution.
