First chapter of the Lloyd Hopkins Trilogy.
Its first title was Los Angeles Deathtrap.

It has been refused by 18 french editors, before french editor François Guerif from Rivages accepted it.

It was the first Ellroy's book ever adapted for the screen in 1987 by James B. Harris, director of Cop where James Woods is Lloyd Hopkins.
James Ellroy said in many interviews that he didn't like Cop and the acting of James Woods.
The story takes place between may 1982 and january 1983.
